    The entire Stafford County has a population of close to 140,000. 30% are under the age of 19 and nearly 5% are over the age of 75. While the median age of the population is 34 years, the median household income is more than $97,000. More than half the households in Stafford County have an income of more than $75,000.

    The workforce in our area is also highly educated, with a fifth of those over 25 years having a general college degree and another 14% having a professional degree in law, medicine, business administration, social work or nursing. In addition, 8% of the population has an associate’s degree.

    With a growing population, Stafford County is the 7th most populated county in the state of Virginia out of 95 counties. Nearby is Prince William County with a population of over 440,000 and Spotsylvania County is similar in size with a population of just over 130,000.

    The largest Stafford County racial/ethnic group is White/Caucasian at 74%. Nearby Fauquier County households average $82,823 and King George County households average $82,327 per year.

    Stafford County is growing quickly. The county has seen a 40% growth in population over the past decade. We are close to Richmond, the state capital, and Washington DC. Besides this, there are many areas within Stafford County offering low cost, larger homes for those who prefer a rural ambience. The mountains and beaches of Virginia are both nearby for those seeking adventure.

    Right here in Stafford is Germanna Community College. Travel 12 miles south to Fredericksburg and you’ll find University of Mary Washington. Head north about an hour to Herndon and you’ll find Strayer University, which enrolls around 40,000 and is primarily online learning. Adequate medical care is also available with Stafford Hospital, Mary Washington Healthcare and Aquia Family Medical Center nearby.

    Housing in Stafford County comprises exclusive gated communities, starter homes, cluster homes, and apartment complexes, meeting the varied needs of the population. There are also beautiful waterfront properties along the Potomac and Rappahannock rivers.

    Things to Do

    If you’re visiting Stafford County, you’ll find plenty to do. There are parks, museums, and golf courses. Those who want to explore the history of the region can visit George Washington’s boyhood home at Ferry Farm. There is also Chatham, the one and only home in America visited by Washington, Jefferson and Lincoln. Government Island is also located in the middle of Stafford, which is a 17-acre historic & scenic nature preserve and archaeological site. 

    In Stafford County, there are plenty of opportunities for water sports such as swimming, kayaking, fishing, and canoeing. There is also a live dinner theater at the Riverside Center in Fredericksburg, which is located in Spotsylvania County. You can also visit Potomac Point Winery, an old-world, Tuscan-style vineyard and winery.
